American Red Cross Receives $20,000 Donation From PRA For Colorado Relief

NORFOLK, Va., October 8, 2013 -- The American Red Cross Eastern Virginia Region has received a $20,000 donation from Norfolk, Va.-based Portfolio Recovery Associates, Inc. (Nasdaq: PRAA), a financial and business services company operating in the U.S. and the U.K., to support disaster relief operations for those affected by the devastating flooding in Colorado.

Charlie Nusbaum, chapter board chairman for the American Red Cross of Southeastern Virginia, commented, "Once again, Portfolio Recovery Associates comes forward with a substantial donation to support communities in the aftermath of a major disaster. We not only appreciate PRA's generosity, but also their confidence in the American Red Cross to meet the highest standards in delivering aid and comfort to those who need it most."

Kevin Stevenson, executive vice president and chief financial and administrative officer for PRA, and board member of the American Red Cross of Southeastern Virginia, said, "In the wake of this tragedy, it's encouraging to see so many individuals and businesses step up to support the American Red Cross in its relief efforts. At PRA, we felt the need to do something to help, and we're grateful that the Red Cross is always there when disaster strikes."

To date, nearly 900 Red Cross relief workers are deployed to the affected region in Colorado, where they have served more than 86,000 meals and snacks, handed out more than 111,000 relief items, and provided health and mental health services to as many as 8,200 people. The Red Cross has also housed hundreds of flood victims in shelters across Colorado.

As people return to their homes, the Red Cross distributes personal hygiene items, cleaning supplies, lanterns, tents, sleeping bags, rakes, tarps, shovels, flashlights, gloves, coolers and insect repellant at Disaster Assistance Centers and Emergency Aid Stations. Red Cross relief workers also hand out comfort items, snacks, cold water, stuffed animals, coloring books and a variety of safety information.
